the only thing you really have to understand about geoff rickly is that he was created in a lab to be your weird as fuck eccentric high school english teacher who is mercilessly mocked and psychologically tortured by most of the class because he’s a very easy target but dearly adored by the kids who are about to figure out they’re trans because he is also deeply lovable and has a face you could come out to. and he was one semester away from becoming exactly this when the universe took a left turn and he accidentally became a rockstar who influenced the direction of an entire subculture of music. and ever since then the universe has been trying to make up for this little mishap by punishing him with a series of misfortunes almost poetic in their magnitude. he IS the tragic postmodern protagonist he should be trying to critically analyse with bunch of unenthusaistic sixteen-year-olds who only know how to deal with their unfortunate crush on him by bullying him.

that post that everyone is reblogging rn is from back in february but i think my favorite part about that whole discourse. is when i originally saw it on twitter. there were about 100 like 16 year olds going “what would i even talk about with a 35 year old” like do you not think they are people? they’ve got family. friends. hobbies. jobs. interest. favorite movies. what do you talk about with your friends? exclusively your petty highschool drama?

“what would i talk about with a 35 year old” literally anything. your music taste. i guarantee you have a lot in common with people who are not your age. have fun.

when you hit 35 you exclusively want to talk about refinancing your mortgage and which dyson vacuum cleans the most efficiently. sorry. no other conversation topics are open to you.

also. even if you have no shared interests there is a lot to learn from people who have wildly different life experiences from you. sometimes you can listen to other people and be interested in their life without directly relating to any aspect of it. sometimes you can even learn from it. wild. i know.
